About

Inspired by my personal experience with dyslexia and learning differences I returned to college with the goal of this work in mind. I subsequently earned an Associate of Science degree in Child Development and Education in 2020, then earned a Bachelor of Science in Educational Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in 2021, focusing my studies and research on dyslexia and neurodiversity.

I believe access to effective literacy instruction is a basic human right and that early screening is at the heart of prevention. The earlier we can assess and understand every learning profile, the more effective our instruction will be. I spent two years working for UCSF on an educational research project called Multitudes. It is taxpayer-funded research to build an early assessment tool for all California public schools. Assessments are crucial, but they are only the first step because without effective literacy instruction, nothing else matters.

I am working towards full Slingerland Teaching Accreditation, a two-year intensive training program. I am halfway through and currently hold a certificate that qualifies me to use this methodology.
